Andre Berto Drug Test: "Consistent with contamination not intent"

LOS ANGELES, USA (defend.ht) - Sources informed on the positive drug test of the former welterweight champ, Andre Berto, have revealed that the traces of a banned substance found in the fighter's samples were so small that it is likely the substance was introduced by contamination.

Berto volunteered to take the drug test that was administered by the Voluntary Anti Drug Association (VADA) and on May 18th it was reported that the he had tested positive for the band substance norandrosterone. Ultimately a June 23rd rematch with Victor Ortiz at the Staples Center in Los Angeles would be cancelled because of the testing result.

BoxingScene.com reporter Gabriel Montoya discussed the analysis of the test with sources close to anti drug association who revealed that the "ultra-trace amounts of Nandrolone in the low parts per trillion range and consistent with contamination not intent."

Does this mean Berto-Ortiz could have been saved, asked Montoya in his report? Highly unlikely according to former fighter and promoter Daniel "Haitian Sensation" Edouard.

Edouard informed that boxing officials and organizers would not have allowed the fight in June to continue but given the new revelations it could mean that Berto will avoid sanctions from the World Boxing Council and other officiating bodies.

Victor Ortiz will still fight on June 23rd and will face Josesito Lopez.
