The head of state is strangely reminiscent of the former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier with the distribution of envelopes full of cash and slogans “Daddy Martelly" written on signs in Port-au-Prince, notes the coordinator of the Struggling People's Organization (OPL).

Sauveur Pierre Etienne judges irrational the approach of Michel Martelly to give away motorcycles and cars to people living under tents and plastic sheeting.

Mr. Martelly would do better, he adds, trying to understand the needs of people living in subhuman conditions almost two years after the earthquake instead of falling in a process he calls anarcho- populist.

Political scientist Mozart Déronett also likens the initiative to populism, calling the head of state to avoid undertaking activities that could reduce the prestige of his office.

The head of state forgets that it is no longer a candidate campaigning, said Mr. Déronett.

"I do not see the sense of the distribution of motorcycles and cars, in a cultural and artistic activity. In addition, the show was vile, without form and substance miscalculated" Mozart reported Déronett who claims to have nothing been positive in this process.

Member of Parliament for the first district of Port-au-Prince, Rodriguez Sejour, also believes that the 400 million gourds given for the Christmas program Solidarity could have produced good results, if used as part of a structured program for the benefit of people suffering from all kinds of difficulties.

What the head of state has done Tuesday in Port-au-Prince will not improve the bad living conditions of the population, Rodriguez concluded.
