PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – The Parliament sent a letter to President Michel Martelly confirming the authenticity of the Constitution of Haiti that is to be made known throughout the territory and world. The correspondence was delivered to the Minister of Relations between the Executive and Parliament on Monday, the presidency claims to have not received the letter.
The Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, Simon Desras (Centre/Lavni), said Minister Ralph Theano received the correspondence on Monday.
Senator Desras, again, reminded the public that the Constitution, newly amended, had already been published and had come into effect with the inauguration of Michel Martelly.
It was an executive order by Martelly declaring the Constitution to not be a reflection of the vote of Parliament that has since put the country in a constitutional crisis.
Members of Parliament, the Executive and Judiciary, civil society and international community have since corrected what are described as 'clerical errors' in the text of the Constitution by analyzing audio and video recordings of the Legislative sessions held May 8th and 9th 2011.
Since having the corrected document, the president has on several occasions made public promises that the authentic, amended, Constitution of Haiti would be made known throughout the territory and the world.
The most recent promise came in late May when the spokesman for the National Palace, Lucien Jura, said the document would be published in the month of June.
