The representative of the Presidency denounced the death threats on Friday after a day that saw protests, injuries and burning barricades in the district of Cite Soleil.
The community is lashing out at Day for corruption saying he is pocketing taxpayer dollars. According to local organizers, a request for 23 million HTG ($575,000 [US]) to host the feast of the Immaculate Conception was rejected by Day's office. The people say he has pocketed 17 million HTG ($425,000 [US]).
The people burned tires and broke the windshields of vehicles to show their anger at the lack of an official celebration of this religious holiday.
"If I were a thief, I would not be representative because the President would not have tolerated," said tight during a press briefing, Mr. Day who claims to have been called a "macoute".
