Seis mortos, grandes danos após dois dias de chuva no Norte do Haiti

Limbe, Haiti (defend.ht) - Seis pessoas foram mortas e dezenas de outros desabrigados quando as tempestades atingiram o Departamento de Haiti do Norte em 8 e 9 de abril. Este relatório foi elaborado em 10 de abril pelo chefe de comunicações da coordenação técnica do comitê do departamento do Norte, gestão de riscos e desastres, Bernadin Francisque.
April 9, four dead, including a 14 year old girl and her brother aged 12, were recorded in the town of Garde Cognac (5th communal section of the town of Limbe) following a landslide.
Two other deaths occurred in the town of Port Margot on April 8 because of the floods that have also carried away cattle and devastated crops. These waters have left 9 families and 68 other people in temporary shelters.
In addition, 20 houses were damaged; cattle swept away, crops devastated in the municipalities of Plaine du Nord and Acul du Nord. Several other families are victims of floods in Borgne. The roads connecting the towns of Plaisance and Pilate are almost impassable, blocked by silt.
The inhabitants of the City of Blue Hills area of the town of Cap-Haitian have also suffered flooding from the River flood of the upper Cape. This river is obstructed by cuttings as well as uncontrolled construction. A bridge connecting the area Vertières and Blue Hills was destroyed by the floods.
Bernadin Francisque appeal to the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication (MTPTC) to clear the channels, stretches of road, drainage and rivers.
