President Martelly Participates in Ceremony while Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba (defend.ht) - Two days after returning to Haiti from a 10 day voyage, President Michel Martelly traveled to Cuba where he honored and placed flowers at the foot of the statues of two Haitian heroes of independence. Haiti: Protesters Heckling President and US Ambassador Visit Beaten by Police


PETIT-GOAVE, Haiti (defend.ht) - President Michel Martelly and the U.S. Ambassador Pamela White were on route to inaugurate a new road in the coastal town of Petit-Goave when the delegation was met by a group of young men on motorcycles who shouted 'Aba Martelly'. Police beat the protesters, killed livestock and fired tear gas during a melee to disperse the crowd. Allegedly an elderly woman died in her home asphyxiated by the tear gas.

Police Officer Passed Away at Martelly's Manifestation

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - President Michel Martelly's kanaval-protest on Monday did not pass without incident. A police officer died from a supposed heart attack after the 9km route from the airport to the National Palace, and at the National Palace security fired tear gas and shots in the air to disband protesters demanding their pay after walking from the airport with the Head of State.
