Martelly Meets with MINUSTAH Head, Edmond Mulet

PORT-AU-PRINCE - In order to better understand the role of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and begin talks towards the departure of the peacekeeping force, the President-elect, Michel Martelly, met, Wednesday, with Edmond Mulet, Interim Head of the mission.
In the meeting, the President-elect addressed the question of the strengthening of the capacities of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the establishment of a larger force, a burning project of the future President to establish a civilian military.
The President shared his road maps concerned with the rule of law and security with Mr. Mulet.
In the heart of the other important points raised during this meeting: the recovery of the economy and the current constitutional amendments were on the table. President-elect Martelly also discussed the importance of the relocation of people living in the tents.
For his part, Mr. Mulet recalled that the primary mission of MINUSTAH is to help ensure a certain level of stability and security in the country.
The UN official also stressed the importance mission that he led in, which allowed for the establishment of safe conditions to attract international investment in the country, establish the rule of law and corrections, among others.
According to the Office of the Elected President, Michel Joseph Martelly, discussions were conducted in the presence of other important members of the UN mission.
Both parties left with a better understanding of the activities already initiated.
They have also helped the President-elect present the priorities of his Government to the representative of the United Nations.
