Martelly in Support of Haiti-Dominican Merger

In a interview on a Dominican Republic talk show in February, Michel Martelly expressed agreement with world powers like the U.S. France and Britain that say Haiti and the Dominican Republic should merge into one.

TRANSCRIPT:
Nuria Piera: These days, it is said that some countries, France, the U.S., Britain want to unify the island, do you think would be appropriate, correct?
Michel Martelly: Yes, very correct, because now the differences are that Haiti has more problems than the Dominican Republic, we have to change that, with increasing trade exchange.
Nuria Piera: So you do not want there to be visa, with all this bureaucracy.
Michel Martelly: No, my dreams I hope to one day go to the border, that my child can go through with his driver's license and say I'll visit and then return.
Nuria Piera: So eliminate the border.
Michel Martelly: Yes.
