Warm Meeting with President Martelly and the Haitian Community in New York

NEW YORK, USA (defend.ht) - Thursday, September 22, 2011. The President of the Republic His Excellency, Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, had a cordial meeting on Thursday night with the Haitian community in New York where thousands of citizens, including representatives of associations and organizations, had gathered in the auditorium of York College to cheer and participate in discussions with President Martelly.
The event, which was vitally important for the President and the delegation, was an opportunity for the Head of State to speak in all sincerity to the Haitian Diaspora in New York, to inform them of the progress and efforts for change in Haiti and learn about their expectations. The atmosphere was friendly, and a time to explore together all the topics of the people of Haiti and the Haitian community abroad.
Members of the Association of Haitian Evangelical Leaders of the New York State had, too, made the trip to come and pray for the President and to renew support from Haitian Christians. Local elected officials, students, entire families, entrepreneurs and business associations that want to invest in Haiti have reinforced this assistance with jubilance. Artists, including Wyclef Jean, who was in his stronghold in New York, Coubano, Shoubou, Alan Cave and many others, were among the guests for hours.
Advisors of the President of the Republic and Head of Connection with the Diaspora, Bernice Fidelia, the Consul General of Haiti in New York, Honorable Felix Augustin, marched before and after him on the podium to address the public and answer various issues of these compatriots.
The President of York College, Dr. Marcia Keizer, was honored by the presence of the President of Haiti in her establishment and express the desire to see him again next year. The Head of State gave them an update on the activities of his administration, again presenting his vision of a new Haiti as he wants to divorce her earlier image to become a land of opportunities open to foreign investment, job creation and economic recovery.
President Martelly continues his crusade in New York for job creation and economic recovery of the country and will deliver his speech on Friday before the General Assembly.
