AP: Martelly Plans Concert, Changes Stance on Peacekeepers, Blames Politicians for Protests

NEW YORK, USA (defend.ht) - In an interview with the Associated Press, President Michel Martelly announced Thursday he would be returning to the stage in December for a concert to raise $10 million for schools.
The president also said he has changed his opinion that U.N. peacekeepers should leave and blames members in parliament for stirring up protests.
Martelly told the AP that he hopes to persuade officials from the United Nations and the Dominican Republic to buy tickets to his December 23 concert in Port-au-Prince.
"I remain close to my people... I keep singing with them," the President told the AP. Martelly said as for performing, "it won't be as the president of Haiti. It will be Sweet Micky."
President Martelly told the AP that since becoming president he has changed his mind about some things, particularly that U.N. peacekeeping troops should leave Haiti.

"I think that the absence of our own defense, our own army, justifies its existence," President Martelly said.
Protesters angry over the alleged rape of an 18-year-old man in Port-Salut, Martelly blamed "some people" and politicians he would not name for stirring up the protesters.
