President Martelly, State of the Republic after 30 Days

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - President Michel Martelly addressed the nation on Wednesday with a 30-day report on the progress that has been made and the state of the republic.
The President began with his most important priority, which is to ratify a prime minister. The Constitution requires of the president a prime minister to execute executive duties and Martelly, more than a month ago, designated Daniel-Gerard Rouzier to be his number two.
"...30 days without a prime minister. A prime minister that would have helped me begin the programs that I proposed to you. The programs that made you vote for me."
"During this time, there seems to be certain barricades that have gotten in the road, to block the prime minister that I have chosen for you."
"But I am not discouraged by this. Since I've been in this work, I have continued without rest."
The President continued to present a list of things that he has been able to accomplish without a prime minister, over the course of 30 days. The list includes:
- - the market in Gonaïves that was destroyed by arson in May, the government has identified funds and the market is currently being reconstructed
- - in the rural town of Savann Pistache, there has been complaints of insecurity, the government has began erecting a prosecutors office for the zone
- - education is an issue of top priority, the National Fund for Education has been established and in the past 3 months the government has been identifying children in the street to make sure that they are in school by the next school year
- - a few interstate roads have been in disrepair and have troubled travelers, the government has begun construction on these roads
- - notice was taken that there was text in the constitution that was not voted on by parliament
- - damage caused by rains and flooding of lakes in the past week's storms are being addressed
The President spoke on the topic of housing, and of "Kay Pam", the project he worked on with the late Chairman of the National Bank of Credit, Guiteau Toussaint. President Martelly reiterated that the investigation is continuing and he will not cease until the culprits are brought to justice. As well, Martelly said that he will continue "Kay Pam", moving the project forward "Tet Kale!"
In closing, the president mentioned that all these things done have been done without the assistance of the state or funding from the state, as he is without a prime minister.
Martelly told the citizens that they must begin to take their nation in their hands and not wait for the state to do for them. Martelly said:
"you must remember that the state is you. Yes, the state is us and we are the state. And that is why today, you must send this message to your deputies and senators, so you can gain more. They must ratify the choice of prime minister so that he can begin working with me, to make life change, truly..."
