Authorities Peeved over New MINUSTAH Feces Dumping

HINCHE, Haiti - Authorities of the Centre Department have denounced the practices of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) for dumping fecal matter near rivers.
Since October 2010, authorities have described such acts as "polluting". The toxic waste has nearly taken 6,000 lives throughout the country since.
Hinche Mayor André Renard, along with several journalists, visited the scene where residents said MINUSTAH had dumped its waste within a few meters of the Guayamouc river. After an assessment, the Mayor did not hide his indignation at what he called "an affront to human dignity."
"I ask once again the start of the Nepalese contingent. They are carriers of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, they come to exterminate us, it's time they leave," he added.
Andre Renard urged people in his town to employ vigilance to prevent any action by the foreign soldiers to use their neighborhood as a feces dump.
The first Senator of the Centre Department (Central Plateau), Francisco Delacruz (Alternativ), describes the dumping of feces near the river Guayamuc as an act of "vagrancy".
The elected representative of the Centre said he would meet with the competent authorities of the UN to rectify this situation.
Also, young people who live in the Kiskeya Village, have begun to ask of the State to take steps to rid the national territory of foreign forces. They threaten to create problems if their voice are not heard.
Members of various social organizations interviewed by AlterPresse, expressed their disapproval of the actions of MINUSTAH. For them, the UN forces do not value the lives of Haitians. They also criticize the seemingly carefree attitude of state officials.
