Haiti: Members on strike, Laurent Lamothe couldn’t file documents

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht)- Prime Minister-designate Laurent Lamothe could not file his documents as he should Thursday with the commission of Deputies studying his case. Members are on strike since the outbreak Tuesday of a group of armed men in the Lower house.

President of the Lower House, Levaillant Louis-Jeune, said that no meeting will be held in the Chamber of Deputies as the executive will not give an explanation of the presence of armed men who besieged the Haitian parliament last Tuesday.

Indeed, the deputies observed a work stoppage until, they say, the Executive provides an explanation about the incident.

The first secretary of the chamber, Faustin Charles Jude, said that as the explanations are not provided, no work will be carried to the room.

In fact, the filing of documents by Prime Minister designated (ratified in the Senate), previously planned for Thursday in the lower house, has been postponed.

But Laurent Lamothe Wednesday reaffirmed his belief in the democratic powers and duties of the legislature and said that he does not endorse in any way the behavior of military men.

In addition, the designated prime minister said on his Twitter account that “he has still not received the invitation for filing documents from the Chamber of Deputies."
