Haiti: Senator Benoit Gives Update on Nationality Commission

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Wednesday, Senator Steven Benoit (Ouest/Alternative) provided an update on the work of the special senate commission tasked with confirming the nationality of members of the government.
In an interview on Radio Vision 2000, Senator Benoit said of having received one document from Senator Moise Jean-Charles (Nord/Inite) as opposed to a plurality of which.
Benoit says he was chosen to hold the submitted evidence which included alleged passport numbers of the president of the republic. The decision was made for one copy to be held in order to not have the information leaked to the press.
The senator also said that communications were sent to the prime minister through President of the Senate, Simon Desras (Centre/Lavni), to request identifying information for some of the 39 members of the executive that are under review.
Benoit says that many of them have same first and last names.
