Haiti Supreme Council of the Judicial Power Expects Installation Tuesday

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Haiti plans to install members of the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) into office on Tuesday, July 3rd.

The announcement was made on Thursday by a representative of the Federation of Bar Associations, Nehemiah Joseph.

Joseph revealed that members of CSPJ held a meeting Thursday morning with President Michel Martelly to prepare for the inauguration.

The first part of the ceremony is reported to be held at the National Palace before the installation session members CSPJ of their functions in the local school for judges. The Presidency and the Ministry of Justice are working to implement the final touches before the ceremony.

The Presidency is expected to release during the weekend the order of appointment of members of the CSPJ while building renovations are about to be completed.

Nehemiah Joseph welcomes the good faith of President Martelly and expressed confidence in completing the process.

CSPJ members are ready, insists Mr. Joseph see the establishment of the CSPJ be a great victory for the judiciary.

Asked about the transfer of responsibilities from the Department of Justice to CSPJ, Mr. Joseph argued that the process will take place during the judicial vacation between July and September.

Over the last two weeks of working sessions between the members of CSPJ and senior executives of the Ministry of Justice were held to prepare the budget for the CSPJ fiscal year 2012 to 2013.

The CSPJ and the Department of Justice must now finalize the terms of the jurisdiction agreement during the transitional period.
