BRASILIA, Brazil ( - Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will visit Haiti on Tuesday and in conversation with President Michel Martelly, expressed her desire to go to Port-au-Prince.

During the visit, Rousseff intends to intensify cooperation with Cuba in health, agriculture, vocational training and support for the construction of the hydroelectric plant on the Artibonite River, in the south in Haiti.

Dilma's aides who are preparing the trip, said the visit will be symbolic, since it occurs at a time when Haiti still faces difficulties of rebuilding from the earthquake of January 12, 2010, which killed more 220,000 people, and the worsening cholera epidemic which has killed 7,000 people.

President Rousseff wants to show that Brazil intends to remain a player in aid to Haiti. For the Rousseff, international support should not be limited to military actions, but extended to the social area. Projects to combat hunger and poverty eradication carried out in Brazil, for example, can be adapted to Haiti, experts say.
