Haiti Finance Minister says $120 Million Emergency Funding Not Spent

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Although during a senate hearing in December, nothing could be said of $120 million [US] of emergency funding for Hurricane Sandy that was disbursed, on Monday, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie said "not a penny" of this money has been spent in the aftermath of the hurricane that passed over Jamaica and Cuba in late October 2012.

Haiti Minister of Economy says "Canada is very bad"

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Friday, the Minister of the Economy and Finance, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, minimized the impact of Canadian aid in Haiti, saying "I do not have one gourde from the Canadian government in my budget," but the minister did take care to say that "Canada is very bad" for taking the decisions it has in recent days, to freeze new aid to Haiti and caution travelers to the country.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Several Ministers of the Haitian government have not received their salaries for November and December. A combination of sources reported that along with teachers, police and other government employees who have not received payment for several months, now the financial crisis is affecting ministers of the executive government and diplomatic missions who had their paychecks returned for non-sufficient funds.
