PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Ministry of Commerce and Industry did not decide to lift a ban on the import and sale of Dominican poultry products following a meeting by a Dominican Presidential Commission that met with government officials on Wednesday. Instead, the decision on the ban will be deferred to the Council of Ministers which will meet on Thursday.

The visiting delegation of the Dominican Republic included the Ministers of Industry and Commerce, Public Health, Agriculture, the Secretary of State for Export and Investment, the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Haiti, and the Executive Secretary of the Joint Committee for the Dominican Republic.

Haitian counterparts met with the delegation at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in Port-au-Prince, and in the end, only agreed to these two terms:

1 - A full report of the meeting will be presented at the next Council of Ministers of the Republic of Haiti in order to decide whether to lift the preventive measures of prohibition of meat and live animals from the Republic Dominican.

2 - Regarding poultry products in particular, the technical staff of the Ministries of Agriculture of both countries will meet in a timely manner to define a protocol establishing mechanisms to regulate the trade of these products.
