Haiti: Council of Economic and Social Development Established

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - A new institution called the Council of Economic and Social Development was established on Monday and was tasked to simplify administrative procedures of the government and facilitate investment in Haiti.

The Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Laurent Lamothe Salvador conducted this Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Hotel Karibe the launch of the Council of Economic and Social Development (CDES). This new strategic body of the Prime Minister has a dual mission, simplify administrative procedures and facilitate investment and private initiative.

On this occasion, Mr. Jerry Tardieu and Mr. Pierre Naud Louis were appointed President and General Coordinator of CDES by Prime Minister Lamothe.

The Prime Minister also indicated that with the implementation of the CDES, the Martelly-Lamothe government goes to institutional and strategic perspectives to improve significantly the living conditions of the socially poorest.

In his remarks for the occasion, Head of Government noted that, besides the task of steering the dialogue between stakeholders from different sectors of national life, "the Council must work in cooperation with the organ of National Development Plan, the harmonization of sectoral policies."

The CDES will provide a space for dialogue for strengthening inter-sectoral socio-economic rights of the Haitian people. In this regard, it will also put in permanent civil society and government, their vision of modernizing the country.

Prime Minister Lamothe finally invited all stakeholders in the social and political life, including parliamentarians and members of the private business sector, present on this occasion, to work together to support the Martelly/Lamothe government in its determination to build a new Haiti.
