Haiti: Installation of New State Secretary for Local Authorities

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht/MICT) - The Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, Thierry Mayard Paul, completed the installation of Mr. Mathias Laureus as the new Secretary of State for Local Authorities on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

As the former Secretary of State for Trade, Mr Laureus will be responsible for leading, together with Minister Mayard Paul, decentralization through the program "Katye Pam Poze".

"I know Mr. Laureus and especially his expertise in Local Authorities. He is highly qualified and will contribute in landing the vision of the President of the Republic through the Ministry of Interior," said Mayard Paul.

Mr. Mathias Laureus, appointed by order dated May 25, 2012 by the Government, thanked the Head of State His Excellency Mr. Joseph Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and particularly the Minister Mayard Paul for the opportunity that was offered to serve his country as Secretary of State for Local Authorities. He agreed to give his best to help the Interior Minister and his team to meet the expectations of the population.

The new Ministry of Interior and Local Authorities has a more streamlined structure which will enable dynamism, making it more efficient and certainly more transparent. In this regard, the Minister of the Interior has only one Deputy Secretary of State for Local Authorities.

The Ministry of Interior and Local Authorities work to increase local and international cooperation could provide concrete and positive changes to achieve the vision of President of the Republic which is a sustainable development for the country.
