Haiti: PM Lamothe Urges Domestic Production at 42 OAS General Assembly

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe in his office as Minister of Foreign Affairs led a Haitian delegation to the 42nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States that was recently held in Cochabamba, Bolivia on the theme of "Food Security with Sovereignty in the Americas."
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe in his office as Minister of Foreign Affairs led a Haitian delegation to the 42nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States that was recently held in Cochabamba, Bolivia on the theme of "Food Security with Sovereignty in the Americas."
The government of President Michel Martelly and PM Laurent Lamothe has declared it a goal to stem hunger in the nation of Haiti. In his speech the Prime Minister invited the public authorities concerned to take concrete actions that could lead to increased domestic production to achieve food sovereignty in Haiti and the region.
Speaking on Monday, Lamothe made ​​a point of the Haitian peoples' struggle for emancipation and Bolivian and Latin American unity saying that it is this unity that the two peoples continue to defend vigorously.
The prime minister again reaffirmed his administration's commitment, in front of the thousands of attendees of the sessions, to deliver the results of the 5-E's; those areas of priority of the Martelly-Lamothe government.
These areas are the: Environment, Energy, Education, Rule of Law, and Employment.
Prime Minister Lamothe also mentioned in his speech some points of interest such as the issue of reform of the cadastre, the civil registry, justice and the next parliamentary elections which he promised to be free and fair in Haiti under his Government.
Laurent Lamothe addressed a series of efforts in Haiti to combat extreme poverty and defend human rights, starting with the right to health and food security.
34 ministers of foreign affairs make up the General Assembly of the Organization of American States the supreme organ of the OAS. The General Assembly meets on the first Monday of June each year to open regular sessions and decide on matters of the region.
This year, the theme of the General Assembly was "Food Security with Sovereignty in the Americas." The assembly declared to "promote agriculture development with the goal of strengthening food security in the context of national, regional and international development policies, taking into account the importance of modernization and technological innovation for increasing output and productivity..." among other actions.
