Haiti PM Expects Constitution to be Published and Elections to be Held

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – At a press conference, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe said the Constitution of Haiti, amended May 2011, would finally be published “in the coming days,” and that elections that were due to be held in November 2011 are being organized to be held in November of this year.

President Michel Martelly and his ministers have promised on multiple occasions to publish the Constitution but have not, but according to Lamothe it is one of the priorities of the Head of State to end the constitutional crisis.

The prime minister said that all steps are being taken to allow elections to be held before the end of this year. He said a mixed commission was set up to look at the feasibility of this task.
