President Martelly Returns Home Following Recovery in US

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht)- President Michel Martelly returned to Haiti after spending three weeks in Miami recovering from a blood clot in his lung. On Monday, a few minutes after returning, President Martelly appealed to other branches of power to work together to address the new challenges that hinder the development of the country.

"I appeal to other powers to work together. I encourage a unity movement to combat all the plagues and to change life for every Haitian", said President Martelly.

Haiti’s president welcomed the presence at the airport of Parliament president, Senator Simon Desras, and congratulated Senate for ratifying the Prime Minister-designate Laurent Lamothe.

The Head of State who made a short statement did not take journalists' questions, but praised the work of the press.

"I welcome the press, we encourage the press to play its role to inform, train, motivate and raise awareness. I count on you, the Haitian government needs you to continue to build a new Haiti, " said Mr. Martelly.

The President expressed his gratitude to those who prayed for him during his illness. "I know you wanted to see me, I'm back healthy," he added.
