Sporting Competitions on the Agenda for Diaspora Day

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht/Le Nouvelliste) - Gonaives, Les Cayes, Jacmel, Leogane, Port-au-Prince... Florida, New York, New Jersey, Orlando they will come from here and there, from different cities, different states, of Haiti and the United States and of Canada to participate in a phase of sport of the National Day of the Diaspora on April 22.

Two races are planned for the Sport Phase. A 10 km race which kicks off the roundabout given three hands on Airport Road to finish at the Stade Sylvio Cator via National Highway No. 1, Cite Soleil, La Saline Boulevard, Prime Ministry, Street Barracks, DGI, Dessalines barracks, Rue Oswald Durand to Stade Sylvio Cator. A run of 21 kms which kick off will be given in front of number 18 Beudet 7 to Croix des Bouquets and ending at the Stade Sylvio Cator through Marassa Carrefour, Carrefour Fleuriot, Carrefour Clercyne, Guy Malary National Airport, Toussaint Louverture International Airport, Roundabout 3 hands to pursue the same course as the race of 10 kms. Both races are open to anyone wanting to run.

Three reasons have brought the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) to associate a sporting activities of the National Day of Haitians Living Abroad.

1) A sport will allow both youth in the diaspora as those operating in Haiti to stand next to one another to play something together.

2) A sport bring a little more luster to this day while linking Haitians here and elsewhere around sport even for a day while revealing the stars of tomorrow among young people here and abroad.

3) Allow the young Haitians living abroad to have at least one reason to come home every year and to remember a little more because this land is theirs and they need to invest more to improve it.

No matter how many athletes, four trophies will be awarded for the four champions who finish the first place in each race and in every category.

35 000 HTG (~ $850.00 US) will be awarded to each winner. Those who finish in second place will receive 15,000 HTG (~ $360.00 US) and 5,000 HTG (~ $120.00 US) each will replenish the account of those who finish third.

"We organize this first edition on a trial basis. The ambition to make this competition an international meeting held every year during the national day of Haitians Living Abroad," says a member of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHLA).

"The HAPAS were contacted by the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHLA) Daniel Supplice to coordinate the sporting aspect of the day. Without wasting time we went around the issue through different bases of HAPAS, we visited several cities and contacted many people. Thus we are assured that there will be runners to represent the city of Les Cayes, Jacmel, the city of Leogane, Port-au-Prince, Gonaives to name a few cities. Five municipalities will be affected by the race course," said the president of the HAPAS, Pierre Hugo.

"We have done our best to make this first edition of the marathon to be successful," continued the former player of Baltimore, the selection of the city of St. Marc and selection of Haitian football, adding that the hapas is proud to have contributed to the achievement of this marathon.

Note that this is the first time that sport will be activities associated with the Day of Haitians Living Abroad.
