MIAMI, USA (defend.ht) – The national security of Haiti has been trivialized in at least two attempts to increase sanctions on the sitting, resigned, Prime Minister Garry Conille, currently in the United States for eye surgery.
Over the weekend, the National Palace requested the return of Government Vehicle, Toyota SUV given for use for the Prime Minister of Haiti, a confidant at the National Palace told Defend Haiti on the condition of anonymity.
On Wednesday morning, it was described as an executive order on Facebook but a misunderstanding by officials present at the airport that given to American Airlines before departing from Port-au-Prince, Prime Minister Conille was harangued with security measures and protocols that ultimately amounted to nothing. His shoes were asked to be removed although they were not searched and use of the Diplomatic Chamber was debated.
Prime Minister Garry Conille departed Haiti on Sunday for the United States where he will undergo surgery on his left eye, which has lost 50% vision according to his office. Conille will be out of the country for a week.
The Haitian Head of Government is currently embattled in a fight to shed a light on a series of illegal contracts on the order of $500 million [US] that were signed during the transition period between former President Rene Preval and current President Michel Martelly by current Presidential Adviser and former Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive.
Although resigned from his position as prime minister, Garry Conille remains prime minister according to Haitian law until another is ratified by the Haitian parliament to take his place. For security and function, the powers of the Head of Government of Haiti is today invested in Dr. Garry Conille.
