PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – On Thursday afternoon, the Martelly-Conille government submitted its 2011-12 budget to the Parliament. The proposal now awaits ratification by the legislature.
The Minister of the Economy and Finance, Andre Lemercier Georges, submitted the document himself.
After which, Minister Georges told reporters outside the chambers that it was in stride with the vision of the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, who made four “E’s” the priority of government; education, employment, envirionment and ‘etat de droit’ (state of law).
After submitting a copy to the parliament Minister George also circulated the document with the Haitian Chambers of Commerce throughout the country.
"This is an opportunity for institutions operating in the country to discuss with the standing committees of the Senate and the Lower House about budget allocations for various sectors and departments... this participatory approach in the development of the Finance Act deserves be encouraged in the context of strengthening democracy..."
"Traditionally, the national budget is sent to the legislature without consulting organized groups of society. This year, budget reallocations can be made taking into account the different perspectives of the people..." - Kesner Pharel, Director of Growth
The nation of Haiti had been operating under a twice reactivated budget from the former President Rene Preval.
