Haiti: Gov't Hosts 'Start of Reconstruction' Forum

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The head of the government, Prime Minister Garry Conille held on, Friday, January 13 2012 a forum themed "The Start of Reconstruction".

Reported by AlterPresse, the prime minister said at the event that "the goal for us is to make Haiti a country that can withstand long-term disaster, prevention must be imposed on us as an essential element for everything to work as part of reconstruction..."

Several dignitaries attended the launch, including the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Jude Hervé Day, the representative of the international community in Haiti, Nigel Fischer and several officials of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and ambassadors accredited in Haiti.

To believe the Prime Minister Conille, "the country's reconstruction is the priority for the government," he directs. For that, much effort has been devoted to the process of reconstruction, he says.

"The tragic experiences that people just lived for the two years elapsed [they] remember every day that zero risk does not exist. Thus it is essential to assign the process of rebuilding efforts, while taking advantage of information from these disasters, "said Premier Conille.

The other priority "absolute" government Conille "is the economic recovery."

"The government will accelerate the implementation of a new class growth strategy with the objective of growth of gross domestic product in real terms the amount of 5.8 per cent. The post-disaster reconstruction must be part of policy development and concerned" the Prime Minister has continued Conille.

He also says he wants to raise the status of communication education and presented on this occasion the new website for the prime minister.

According to him, this site was created with a view to greater transparency in the management of state funds. The site is not fully operational but soon it will display hundreds of projects and the partners who will fund them.
