PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Minister of Justice Josue Pierre-Louis sent a letter of resignation to the Senate of the Republic and the Prime Minister, bringing his short term of one month as minister to a close.

Minister Pierre-Louis was under extreme pressure for his involvement in the arbitrary arrest of Deputy Arnel Bélizaire (Delmas & Tabarre/Veye-Yo). It was learned at a senate hearing on November 5th that it was the Minister of Justice who order that the deputy be taken to the National Penitentiary, where he spent one night in confinement.

It was also said that it was the minister of justice who told the president, before the arrest, that he had gone to far and that the executive must continue with the arrest.

It is a striking turn of events because the day following the arrest of the deputy, October 28, the minister of justice called a press conference in his office where he claimed to have played no role whatsoever in the arrest.

Following a senate commission of inquiry it was found that Minister Pierre-Louis was culpable and before an interpellation meeting that will be held Tuesday, November 22nd, Pierre-Louis resigned from his post.

Mr Prime Minister,
I am pleased to present my compliments and I take this occaision to thank you, in consultation with the President of the Republic, has called me to help you in your difficult mission to serve the state.
However, the current situation commands me to present my resignation as Minister of Justice and Public Safety. The current climate does not allow me to implement with all the necessary serenity the roadmap entrusted to me.
Be assured of my willingness to carry out the noble struggle for the establishment of an irreversible in Haiti real state of law.
