Lamothe Exhausting Diplomatic Resources to Resolve Haitian-Dominican Violence in D.R.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Monday, November 14, 2011. The Minister of Foreign and Religious Affairs (MAEC), His Excellency Laurent Lamothe, informs the public that diplomatic talks continue with authorities in the Dominican Republic, demanding their part of measures to protect Haitians living in the area of Descubierta, following acts of violence reported in this community.

The Foreign Minister of Haiti spoke about this with the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Haiti, Ruben Silié Valdez, and reiterated the urgent need for adequate provisions to stop the escalation of inappropriate crimes at the border between Haiti and DR.

The Minister Lamothe continues to intervene with his Dominican counterpart to bring peace to the town of Cornillon, near the neighboring town of Descubierta.

The Haitian Chancellor dispatched the head of the Consulate of Haiti in Barahona and requested the Ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic to report urgently on the circumstances surrounding these unfortunate events and directed the mission to take the most appropriate measures to support the families of victims.

Minister Laurent Lamothe said that he had received instructions from the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly to implement all diplomatic resources to resolve this situation and respond automatically whenever a Haitian would be in trouble or endangered.
