PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe is looking to create thousands of jobs in the textile industry and so, along with Haitian businessmen, among them Clifford Apaid, met on Thursday with Paulo Skaff, President of the Federation of Industries of Sao Paulo (FIESP) in Brazil.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Jean-Jacques Charles, inaugurated the first community restaurant in Arcahaie, on May 18, that will serve free hot meals for 500 persons everyday from Monday through Friday. Days earlier a mobile clinic was established which provided treatment for 270 residents.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Tuesday the exchange rate of the Haitian gourde to the U.S. dollar was set at 44 HTG to 1 USD, signaling a steady decline in the past 13 months. Minister Wilson Laleau said a commission would be established to address the situation and stabilize the rate.

SAO PAULO, Brazil (defend.ht) - On Wednesday Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe met with the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs to work on a plan of action to stop the illegal migration of Haitians in to Brazil. Lamothe is traveling in Brazil for 5 days holding discussions towards getting assistance in the areas of education, technology, science, infrastructure, health, energy, food security, social inclusion, defense and biofuels.

Funding for this network of soup kitchens, effectively, will come from Ede Pep, a social assistance program funded with loans from Petrocaribe.
