NORTH CAROLINA, USA - Officers of the Saint Marc Police Department have traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina to train with the local police, EMS, the fire department and tour the city.
In May of last year, several emergency and law enforcement personnel from North Carolina traveled to St. Marc for a five day mission trip. The officers assisted the Haitian government and St. Marc Police Department by training local police officers.
St. Marc officials were so pleased it was arranged for a visit of the officer to the U.S. The Saint Marc officers arrived on Saturday and are staying for a week.
Local agencies including the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, Guilford County EMS and the Greensboro Fire Department have worked to coordinate training for these officers.
"We're excited. We're honored that they chose to come here," Lt. Hope Newkirk with the Greensboro Police Department said.
A welcoming dinner was held Sunday evening.
"We know they probably could have gone to any law enforcement agency, but we want to make their visit as beneficial for them as possible as far as training goes," Lt. Newkirk said.
