PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Gaillot Dorsinvil returns as President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) for the first legislative and local elections under the Martelly-Conille government.
A third of the Senate, 10 seats, are up for election including mayors and local authorities. Political parties called for the date of the elections to be set as year's end is the constitutional deadline.
The President of the CEP from the latest elections, which was plagued with fraud and countless inconsistencies, returns to his seat. This adds to the uneasiness of the community as the council will also return with only 7 of the 9 seats filled.
