Haiti Raises Weather Alert to RED ahead of Isaac Landfall

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Haitian National Meteorological Center, in the past 24 hours, raised the vigilance level from moderate threat, Yellow, to extreme threat, Red with the landfall of Isaac expected Friday evening on Quisqueya's southern coast.

Risk Management and Disaster announced the activation of its national emergency preparedness and response plan to face the imminent arrival of Isaac. The institution is preparing for the strengthening of Issac into a Category 1 hurricane when it makes landfall Friday afternoon along the Haiti-Dominican border south.
Wednesday night at the emergency operations center for civil defense, a group statement that included ministers, Ronsard St-Cyr of the interior, Jean Hilaire Vilmond of the environment, Secretary of State for Public Security, Reginald Delva, Director of Civil Protection, Alta Jean-Baptiste and Director of the NMC, Ronald Semelfort all called on the entire population, especially those living in areas at risk, to have respect for vigilance levels and safety.
In the NMC special report #3, heavy rains, strong winds, flooding and landslides were warned.
Isaac poses a threat especially for the deep south with the departments Sud-Est and Nippes (southwest).
On Thursday morning the storm was located south of Puerto Rico, wes of the Lesser Antilles.
