PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Clifford Brandt, a wealthy businessman of an Arabic-Haitian family was arrested by the National Police of Haiti for his involvement in the kidnapping of two adults on October 16 as part of a larger kidnapping network in Haiti, authorities say.
"Yes Clifford Brandt is in custody. He is currently in detention at the Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ)." A PNH Spokesman Frantz Lerebours told HPN that an investigation was ongoing.
Lerebours said Clifford Brandt did not deny his involvement in the kidnapping on October 16 of Coralie, 23, and Nicolas Moscoso, 24, the son and daughter of an wealthy Arabic-Haitian entrepreneur.
The kidnapping was carried out on Bourdon Road, informed the police. A two day police operation resulted in the release of the young adults on Tuesday, October 23.
"The motive for the Moscoso child abductions are not known, but it could be done in order to make money. Anyway there is an ongoing criminal investigation," said Frantz Lerebours, of few words on this matter.
Brandt's family has been involved in the soap, oil and food products industries in Haiti since 2004. His uncle Gregory Brandt is the president of the Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and was featured in Haiti's 1 Percent in Foreign Policy magazine.
