Unknown Persons Open Fire on Ministry of Justice Building

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Unknown assailants opened fired Friday afternoon, gunfire directed at the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety.

No casualties were reported but the incident initiated an investigation, Government Commissioner Jean-François Sonel told Radio Kiskeya.

A projectile was found in the office of the Director General of the Department after piercing the roof of the building.

Security officers present heard the shots but did not respond. No arrests were made.

Acting under the mandate of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the police visited the locations of interest necessary for the investigation.

Avoiding for the moment to comment on the attack, Jean-Francois said that the forensic should quickly make a ballistic analysis of the casing recovered at the Department of Justice.

The incident comes at a time marked by a new rise of insecurity with the proliferation in recent days in the capital of incidents characterized as banditry.

President Martelly announced this week the next holder of the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety would Mr Joshua Pierre-Louis who has been fired from his position as general manager under the previous administration Préval.
