Lost Amphibians of Haiti

Herpetologists program "Search for Lost Frogs (frogs looking lost), co-led by Conservation International and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, were finally able to announce good news about the biodiversity of Haiti.

Indeed, 6 species of frogs was thought extinct have been rediscovered in the mountains south of the country.

 

Which augurs good things for Haiti's biodiversity, because, as says Dr. Robin Moore, Conservation International: "Amphibians are what we call a species barometer of the health of our planet." The health of forests is crucial to Haitian people, and the presence of these frogs is a positive indicator, although deforestation is a scourge for the region.

Originally in pursuit of a frog ever found, the shipment had the chance to meet these amphibians was thought missing. Among them, the Ventriloquist frog, named for its cry seems very special projected from a place where it is not. In the Music Register, a frog called Mozart four-note whistle during the night, and only two at dusk. None of these species had been observed for 20 years.
