This palace was built but unfinished by King Henri Christophe in 1820 and served as the offices of the National Security Volunteers (VSN), Tonton Macoutes, in the 1960s.
567 Haitians deported from D.R. in April

OUANAMINTHE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Border Network of Jeannot Success (RFJS) reported that 567 Haitians were deported from the Dominican Republic in the month of April. 498 men, 67 women and 2 children who may not have been afforded due process. These people were left at the border by Dominican authorities, added the network defending human rights.

GONAIVES, Haiti (defend.ht) - The town of Gonaïves was hot this week in violent protest because of a rumor that had gotten out of hand. Gonaiviens heard that a taxi driver had been killed at the hands of a police officer for not having insurance or a current tag for his vehicle. The City of Independence did not stand for that but would later learn that the information had not been accurate.

A pretty tempered result considering the individuals sampled did not live in Haiti and Martelly was a famous musician named "Sweet Micky" who traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada, while Rene Preval was a rarely outspoken president barely seen in the public eye.
