PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - A situation to say the least, "appalling", has been developing at the morgue of the general hospital in the capital. Down for several months, bodies continue to arrive by the dozens every day in Haiti's largest hospital and are being left in the courtyard decaying and posing a health hazard for workers, patients and citizens.

PETITE-RIVIERE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Restoration of Palace of 365 Doors in Petite-Riviere, Artibonite is to begin on Tuesday with the disbursement of funds from Petrocaribe. This palace was built but unfinished by King Henri Christophe in 1820 and served as the offices of the National Security Volunteers (VSN), Tonton Macoutes, in the 1960s.
567 Haitians deported from D.R. in April

OUANAMINTHE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Border Network of Jeannot Success (RFJS) reported that 567 Haitians were deported from the Dominican Republic in the month of April. 498 men, 67 women and 2 children who may not have been afforded due process. These people were left at the border by Dominican authorities, added the network defending human rights.

Rumor sets Gonaïves on fire

GONAIVES, Haiti (defend.ht) - The town of Gonaïves was hot this week in violent protest because of a rumor that had gotten out of hand. Gonaiviens heard that a taxi driver had been killed at the hands of a police officer for not having insurance or a current tag for his vehicle. The City of Independence did not stand for that but would later learn that the information had not been accurate.
FOPARK: Lavalas mobilization to accompany Aristide to court

The Patriotic Force for Respect of the Constitution (FOPARK) announced a mobilization to accompany former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to the Port-au-Prince courthouse on Wednesday May 8 that will "demonstrate the power that Lavalas has in the territory." This mobilization, according to FOPARK officials will be the start of the Lavalas campaign in the upcoming elections.
