Kreyol (Creole)Is a language spoken in many countries in the Caribbean came into existence when African and European influences came into contact, with each other, and people needed a common language with which to communicate. Some of the countries that partake in this dialect include but not limited to: Martinique, French Guyana, La Réunion, Haiti, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, Mauritius, Réunion, Seychelles, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Kovers (Cover, Remixes, Freestyles, Dubplate) in popular music, a cover version, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording of a previously recorded, commercially released song or popular song, a recording of a song that was first recorded or made popular by somebody else.
The term 'freestyle' originally referred to a pre-written rap verse that was not on any particular subject matter, but rather was written for the purpose of demonstrating skill. The term is still occasionally used in this way, though the majority of today's artists use it to mean improvised rapping. Freestyle rap commonly refers to rap lyrics which are improvised through acapella or with instrumental beats, i.e. performed with few or no previously composed lyrics, off the top of the head. It is similar to other improvisational music such as jazz - it has been described as being "like a jazz solo" where there is a lead saxophonist acting as the improviser and the rest of the band providing the beat. Rap battles are sometimes improvised in this way.
Dub plate can refer either to an exclusive tune that only people with industry pull/clout have access to. Famous or well connected Disc jockeys (Dj's) in this genre receive unreleased tracks that no one else has officially gained permission to play/spin in clubs and parties around the world. While other smaller named Dj's are left playing the same tracks that have been "rinsed" for 4 months before release.... the word originated from the old school dancehalls of Jamaica Mixtape A CD or other media containing songs remixed authorized or unauthorized
A mixtape is made by a DJ, and consists of songs that are remixed, or old beats to new songs. Sometimes they feature regular tracks of an unknown artist, so he/she can get press. In the Kreyol world, there are not many producers dealing with Hip Hop artists, but just like in American Hip Hop and in Reggae there are more artists then the I can see? The sad thing is that there are not enough producers for the amount of artists in existence and producers generally do not cater to the hip hop movement. For that reason, artists have taken full force in being "hands on" and flooding the streets with their own Kreyol versions of whatever records they like. Not because of a lack of talent, but due to the lack of production. Furthermore, when they record on a popular beat it is easier to entice those unfamiliar and that do not understand the language to play the record because the beat is already something familiar with all contemporary parties and lovers of the aforementioned types of music.
Thus spawns the birth of Kreyol Kovers Mixtape Series Kreyol Kovers is a series of mixtapes that will feature the best of the best in Kreyol Hip Hop Kreyol Kovers is to date the best collection of Kreyol Hip Hop remixes from some of the most prominent artist from various regions.
