Haiti: Gregory Mevs Named Chair of Pres. Council on Investment

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Friday, the Office of the Presidency announced Gregory Mevs would co-Chair with former U.S. President Bill Clinton the Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Development and Investment (CCPDEI).
The businessman Gregory Mevs replaces Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe who held this chairmanship before becoming minister. Along with Clinton, Mevs will now chair the council of 34 which includes business leaders as well as former and current world leaders.
The CCPDEI was established in September of 2011 for the purpose of advising Haitian President Michel Martelly, advocating partnerships at the international level and creating innovative ways of gaining investment.
Some of the individuals in the CCPDEI are:
former U.S. President Bill Clinton
former Governor General of Canada Michaelle Jean
Digicel CEO Denis O'Brien
Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus
former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe
former Jamaican Prime Minister Percival Patterson
former Mayor of Montreal Gerald Tremblay
among many others.
Moreover, members of the Haitian private sector are hopeful of having one from the local business community close to the ear of the president and influential leaders from around the world.
The CCPDEI has also expanded its capabilities with the ascension of the council's Executive Secretary, Georges Andy René, as Director General of the Center for the Facilitation of Investments. As the head of the CFI, René will follow up on trade deals and laws, the filing of company forms and head a body that brings together five ministers, of commerce, finance, tourism, agriculture and public works and many private sector institutions, the chamber of commerce, regional chambers of commerce, Free Zone Association, tourism association and the like.
