SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (defend.ht) - The Director of the Dominican Center for Exports and Investment, Franklin Lithgow, said since 2004, exports to Haiti have risen from $78.5 million to $875 million in 2010, $1 billion in 2011.
Haiti is DR's second biggest importer after only the U.S. and the need to strengthen trade relations with Haiti is what Lithgow says is his priority.
The Dominican Republic has imported an undocumented workforce from Haiti that provides the country with about one million unskilled workers at an economic price for production.
