Haiti: Power Outages across Port-au-Prince

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - At least 32 power grids lost power in metropolitan due to Tropical Storm Isaac which passed over Haiti Friday night. Authorities at Electricity of Haiti (EDH) believe damage was minimized by preventative measures taken before the storm such as trimming tree branches threatening power lines and prepare gas generators for backup.

Tempête Tropicale Isaac: Inondations à Port-au-Prince (25 Aout 2012)
The General Director of EDH, Andress Apollon held the meeting on Thursday where final preparations were discussed with the electricity company's board of directors.
Four teams were dispatched throughout the city of Port-au-Prince and in the southern towns, particularly Les Cayes, eight were mobilized to prune trees and take measures to avoid unfortunate incidents of power outages and electrical shock.
The Deputy General Director, Dukens Raphael and a technical team, went to Delmas 71 where they suspended the high-voltage Péligre that bordered a house built out of planning standards which could cause a huge fire. This did decrease the amount of electricity available to the public.
At Delmas 33 engineers under the supervision of the Technical Director of Engineering Wilson Selony and Deputy Director of Engineering Partick Mathurin worked to stabilize electricity and solve problems that were triggered due to outdated equipment.
EDH sent a warning to citizens to not to touch the electric wires and poles, especially after the storm.
Tabarre and Clercine have appeared to suffer the most damage. As of Saturday morning the electric company sent out a team to study and solve the outage. Numbers were given to the public to contact EDH where anomalies are found: 2813-1641, 2816-1676, 2816-1677, 2816-1678, 2816-1679
