PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Royal Oasis Hotel, that began planning in 2006 and construction in 2009 opened its doors on Wednesday becoming the first 5-star hotel in Haiti.
With 128 rooms and suits, a lush garden, terrace café, shops, business center and two conference rooms, the project which began its planning in 2006 had a cost of $35 million US including 18 million in equity investments in Haiti and in the Haitian Diaspora, according to Le Nouvelliste .
The earthquake of January 12, 2010 significantly delayed completion of the project. "During the earthquake, we already had 5 floors. No cracks had been observed," said the contractors of the project.
The hotel by Jerry Tardieu is said to have state of the art surveillance and safety systems. "The hotel has a fire system and surveillance cameras to international standards," said the contractor, "with this project, we were able to reach the economic, social and aesthetic concrete sign that Haiti is recovering from the disaster of January 12, 2010."
Funding for the project is as revolutionary, according to Tardieu. 95% of the national capital. The shareholding is inclusive, diverse, extended. It reflects the social fabric of Haiti, according to the president of the Council of Economic and Social Development attached to the office of Prime ministre. Office National Insurance (ONA) is also the majority shareholder.
Management will be provided by Royal Oasis Occidental Hotels and springs which manages more than 20 hotel properties in the Caribbean.Related 06.13.2011: Guiteau Toussaint Was Vice-President of Clinton Bush Hotel Investment
