Ezili Danto and Nation of Islam Bring Purified Water to Thousands in Haiti

BOIS CAIMAN, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Sunday, Ezili's Haitian Lawyer Leadership Network (HLLN), the Nation of Islam (NOI) and the indigenous Haitian army stood in solidarity with the victims of the cholera outbreak providing the community with a 30,000 gallon-per-day water purification system.

August 14 2011, the 200th anniversary of the Ceremony at Bois Caïman, the NOI/HLLN partnership gifted the first of two purification units to "well-established and connected-to-the-people" Haitian grassroots women organizations to manage and distribute the water to their local communities.

The organizations were provided with a week of training and technical support sponsored by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and NOI Engineer, Brother Byron Muhammad. The brother traveled to Haiti to teach the organizations how to operate and take care of the solar-powered purification system that makes 30,000 gallons of clean water per day.

The water system will service the greater Port au Prince area with on-location distribution and eventually a fleet of "Zili Dlo" trucks to fan throughout underserved neighborhoods and tent compounds. The next unit will be in the North serving the Mirebalais, Saint Marc, and Artibonite area, epicenter of the cholera outbreak.

In a statement, the two partners said:

"We'd like all Haitians to see Zili Dlo as theirs and to help us place schedules for portable, clean, safe water deliveries all throughout Haiti.

Ezili's HLLN has denounced the United Nations (UN) for "gross criminal negligence" introducing a virulent strain of cholera to the Haitian water system and not accepting responsibility.
