ZORANJE, Haiti - On Wednesday, U.S. President Bill Clinton and outgoing Prime Minister Jean Max Bellrive were accompanied by President Michel Martelly as he was introduced to the Building Back Better Communities (BBBC) project that will be showcased at the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission's (IHRC) housing expo.
In honor of the Government of Haiti's Housing Week, this was a preview of the IHRC's Housing Expo to take place in early July. The Housing Expo will be a showcase of winners from design and innovation competitions who will have their models for new housing and communities hopefully implemented by the Martelly administration.
The BBBC project is concerned with 3 components, creating housing, employing "Green Techonology" and implementing "Examplar Community Development". There is a 140 home housing model endorsed by Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive that the IHRC says "will set new standards for housing, physical infrastructure, home ownership, renewable energy, water usage, job opportunities, and social well-being."
President Martelly, Prime Minister Bellerive and President Clinton will also show their support for Haiti’s Housing Week at the inauguration of an IDB/FAES 400-home project in Zoranjé. This project will share community facilities and public infrastructure with the ECD, located next door. This project is set to complete 325 houses in its first 100 days.
