Ayiti: Senatè Lambert di prezidan Martelly pa ka ap mande yo Montre Paspò li

JACMEL, Haiti (defend.ht) – Senator Joseph Lambert (Sud-Est/Inite) said on Sunday that “no institution can request the president to show his passport.” Afterwards, Lambert received the endorsement of President Michel Martelly for his reelection campaign.
Senator Lambert is the chairman of the senate commission investigating the nationalities of members of the government including President Michel Martelly. Lambert made the declaration while at the Jacmel Carnival on Sunday accompanying the president of the republic.
Senator Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aime (Nord-Est/Inite), who was also in the south with the president on Sunday and agreed with Lambert but said that all senators on the committee did not agree.
Sunday was the first time since the reestablishment of the committee that its chairman, Lambert, or any other members believed that there is such a law. It can be argued that ARTICLE 118 of the Constitution of Haiti gives this power to the National Assembly.
President Martelly told the public on Sunday to reelect Joseph Lambert to another 6-year term in the senate as his term would be ending in May 2012.
Questions have been raised if Senator Lambert’s objectivity had been compromised and whether he would be asked to resign from the senate commission. Senator Lambert told the press that he did not intend to resign saying, “I will stay in the committee until I violate ethical rules…”
