In an interview with Vision 2000 radio, Commander Samson Chery downplayed last weeks call by the Minister of Justice, Michel Brunache, who ordered the Chief of Police, Mario Andresol, to use force against men and women training and occupying public spaces as members of the Armed Forces of Haiti.
Commander Chery says that his men are maintaining cool heads and that they do not want to get into a fight with the police. "The police are our brothers, are sisters, are family and our neighbors...", Chery said. But Chery says also if the police are given orders to attack them, they would not stand with their arms crossed.
The soldiers believe they have right to the bases in Haiti. They continue to hold that the Haitian army is Constitutional and in effect they believe a soldiers home is his base.
The commander told the reporter from Vision 2000 that there are 6,847 that are in training programs and 15,000 through all the departments.
