US Senatè Marco Rubio an Ayiti revize efò rekonstriksyon

MIAMI, USA (defend.ht) – U.S. Senator for Florida Marco Rubio headed to Haiti to review U.S.-backed efforts to help the Caribbean country rebuild two years after a devastating earthquake.

The Florida senator's office said Rubio went to Haiti on Monday morning as part of the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee and in his capacity as the top Republican on the Western Hemisphere subcommittee, according to Associated Press.

Rubio was slated to meet with Haiti's president and prime minister, private sector leaders and nonprofit organizations working there to help assess the state of the country. He was scheduled to return Monday night to Miami.

Last Thursday was the second anniversary of the catastrophic quake that killed 316,000 Haitians and displaced 1.5 million people in and around the capital, Port-au-Prince. More than 500,000 are still living in temporary camps amid a cholera epidemic.
