The small book fair that began in 1994 when four authors came and did book signings, has grown and will host 135 authors with Edwidge Danticat as its guest of honor. An author of Haiti origin who has published significant works in English in the United States. Danticat who emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 12, now has her work translated into French in France before being reissued in Haiti.

Le Nouvelliste ak Unibank initiated the event and with partners from the French Institute, the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL) , A National Director of Books , A Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie , Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and others, a series of activities will be available free to the public for fifteen days from June 16 to July 1.

"With so many authors to sign nearly 100 new - some as Danticat has five new titles - this is the absolute record for Livres en Folie," said Duval.

"There are large confirmed sizes and beginners as it is the principle of the fair who greets everyone leaving the public judge of talent and maker of success", insists Duval.

"The choice of the guest of honor is the sign of the turn that we give to Livres en Folie for years to come: they are just books in French or Creole for the Haitian authors or books on Haiti which are welcome, but also all books on Haiti or Haitian authors regardless of the language of publication."

Danticat is the perfect example that language is not a barrier. Her work draws its roots and soul in the depth of the Haitian customs and history. "This year, we open the door to English but as soon as, next year, these are all the languages that will be welcomed", said the Editor-in-Chief of Le Nouvelliste involved for years in the constant redefinition of this fair.

Evidence of the turn, Livres en Folie will offer a batch of 100 works of Haitian authors or books on Haiti written in English at the FOKAL library which will hold an exhibition open to the general public.

"There is great interest in Haiti throughout the world. There are numerous publications which deal with Haiti but remain unknown for Haitians, it is time that we are made interested. Books in English are the tip of the iceberg, there is a wealth of books available in the Dominican Republic in Spanish which is unknown to Haitians, it is time to know through the curiosity of the readership for these lands unknown to the world of books where talking about us", said Duval.
