$250 Million To Build 30-MW Waste-to-Energy Plant in Port-au-Prince

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Haitian Government has signed a $250 Million partnership agreement on Thursday with the "International Electric Power Company"  for the construction of a processing plant waste and the production of 30 megawatts of renewable electricity, for Port - au-Prince and the metropolitan area.

The project, estimated at $ 250 million, is to collect household waste in the different municipalities of the metropolitan area of Port - au-Prince to produce 30 megawatts of renewable energy to serve the capital and its surroundings.

"we had an investor who wants to enter in the field of energy, which will invest 250 million dollars in this sector, it is the Phoenix project. They signed a contract with the Government of Haiti and the project will start shortly, they will collect household waste, and convert them into energy and they will do so with a Haitian partner Boucard Pest Control", Karl Jean Louis Director of Centre for Facilitation of investments (CFI) explained.

“Project Phoenix will have a profound impact positively affecting many sectors of the Haitian economy,” said Enzo Zoratto, President and COO of IEP. “Phoenix jump starts the social, environmental and economic development that Haiti so desperately needs.”

A processing plant will be built on 160 hectares. The plant will be located 18 kilometres from Port - au-Prince. They'll sell this energy and create jobs in the collection, processing and related services that the firm will provide in the metropolitan area. the Phoenix project will generate some 2,000 direct jobs.
