The CEO of the company, Maarten Boute, explains the reasons for this decision and conditions that may bring to a normalization of relations between sponsor and sponsored.

Enock Néré: The Digicel has just suspended the credits of phone calls from all VIP Haitian football when it was part of his contract. What motivates such a decision?

Maarten Boute: Before the election, we heard allegations from people we have football alarmed. We sought clarification on these allegations with the Haitian Football Federation and they have not yet answered, is why we have frozen aid we give to the federation until an independent commission investigates and clarifies the situation. And as the credits of phone calls to VIP members are also part of this aid, we have also frozen.

EN: This implies that the contract is no more?

MB: The contract continues and we will not stop working with the Haitian football. This is an interim decision pending some clarification on the side of the Federation in regard to the various allegations against it because we believe that the charges mentioned in the allegations, we have heard on several radio stations are severe enough to deserve clarification before proceeding. That is why we are ready to start again as soon as possible an independent commission, I say independent, conducted a survey which will provide the necessary clarifications. We want clarification.

EN: A review board was elected Sunday to receive any challenges, so that you have a deadline to accept the elected committee. If there is no dispute what is your position relative to the elected committee?

MB: According to the statutes of the Federation of Haitian Football, analyzed by our lawyers, the Appeals Board should have been elected since the Congress of August that fixed the electoral congress in January 29. Depending on what my lawyers say, the congress of January 29 is illegal under the statutes of the federation, so the review board elected to Congress is illegal and can not be legal. I hear a lot and I must say that there is no desire of Digicel to tamper but only for clarification. There is no personal problem between me and Dadou and even less between Digicel and the Haitian football. Jean Bart is someone I respect, he and I used to call or communicate by mail. However, when we wanted clarification, I made calls to Dadou and I have not had any answers. As he was not in Haiti, I guess it's because of his absence from the country.

EN: As a sponsor, the terms of your involvement with the federation and FIFA rules allow you to challenge these elections?

MB: Let's be clear, we do not contest the elections and no it is not our approach. We have lawyers who reviewed the allegations of some people of Haitian football and these allegations are serious enough that We request clarification. We're here to help. Digicel has helped in the reconstruction of 150 schools and are involved in several other areas of the office because the Digicel wants to accompany the Haitian people. However, it has a cooperation with the football and we would like everything to be done in the standards, there is a unanimity but certainly not like last Sunday. Unanimously that all things be done in workmanlike.

EN: Please note that these are leaders who have elected the football committee and in a letter published last Saturday, the leaders of the Haitian football protested against what they call interference in football management. This risk does he not simply lead to a clash with the Haitian football?

MB: All we ask is that the federation clarifies the situation. We got a group of leaders of Haitian football allegations that seem serious and we ask that FIFA and the Haitian Federation we provide clarification and this is not to interfere in football management. We can not ourselves judge and condemn but our contract allows us to seek this clarification on behalf of our customers that we respect.

EN: You had agreements with CONCACAF, which is also splashed by corruption scandals and its president, Leroy Burrell, was suspended by FIFA in the time of Mr. Warner, who was president of CONCACAF, has also been splashed, Digicel has not yet said a word. Is it not a system of two weights and two measures when you ask leaders to account for the Haitian Football Federation?

MB: There are not two weights and two measures. When CONCACAF was tainted by the scandals of 2011, there were also negotiations and discussions with FIFA that were fairly firm, which has given assurances that were sufficient to allow us to keep moving forward. Perhaps these discussions were less publicized than in Haiti where people show a little more interest in what happens but Digicel had not closed its eyes. So it is in no way question in two weights and two measures.
